Christmas comes early in my little workshop. I've been working on gift tags and ornaments this week and drawing new designs. I recently took the leap and bought a web domain, so I will be adding cute little Christmas stuff as soon as I get it made for the next few weeks. Remember to order early for custom items as it gets a little crazy around here about mid-November.
You can purchase my creations at either my etsy shop or my new website. (Just getting started on the website so not much listed yet, but please do take a look and tell me what you think.) If you like vintage, I also have a vintage shop:
My Website
My Etsy Art Shop
My Vintage Shop
Custom Gift Idea:
* a personalized mug, plate, or coasters featuring your child's drawing or painting. I have 3 mug styles, 2 plate styles, and an assortment of sizes of tile both round and square to choose from:
MIXED MEDIA BY ZEHNER I am an artist in a small town in the Texas panhandle. My first love is ceramic sculpture, but I also love pottery, painting, mixed media, gardening, and searching for vintage and antique treasures. Links on the right side below will take you to my 2 etsy shops: MixedMediaByZehner (click on frog to see my art) and VintageByZehner (green link under the frog that says Vintage by Zehner).

Summer 2016
Sometimes it seems that we just blink and another year has gone by. For the past few years I have not accomplished much with my art or building my etsy shop. So this summer with a ton of surgeries and illnesses finally behind me, I am trying once again. I have joined an online group of other entrepreneurs and have learned a lot about SEO (search engine optimization), photography, writing, branding, and a lot of other stuff. It is overwhelming at times. Anyway, finally, with the help of the experts, I have bought a domain name and just beginning to build a website. It is kind of freaking me out because it is one more thing on my long, long list of things I want to accomplish this summer. I still want to leave some time for those pesky household summer tasks like spraying the fence with sealer, painting the patio table and benches, growing tomatoes, and continuing my fight with the weeds in my flower beds. Anyway, I recently squeezed in a little time for artwork and here are some of my projects. You can find them in my etsy shop by clicking on the little frog on the right side of the page, or following this link: https://www.etsy.com/shop/mixedmediabyzehner

Decoupage
I work primarily in clay, but once in awhile, I like to play with other materials too. For this project I wanted a French look and the following website is where I found these great images:
http://www.thegraphicsfairy.com
For this project I am using a metal container I found at a thrift shop. The inside was already black and in good shape, but the outside needed a makeover. These are the very easy steps I used:
1. Paint the outside of the metal vase or whatever you have with a country white. I used chalk paint I bought at Main Street Market in Hereford, Texas (her brand), but any acrylic paint will do. I like the chalk paint because it will adhere well to the surface without priming. I let the paint cure overnight. You can prepare the images and find the bling while you wait.
2. Next I printed off the designs on light tan paper, and tore around the edges for a rugged look. Then I used a brown distressing stamp pad to darken the edges of the designs.
3. I glued the designs on with Mod Podge and let them dry. Then I painted on a coat of Mod Podge over the entire outside surface so it has a uniform sheen. Let dry.
4. I glued the buttons and bling on with E6000 glue.
Supplies:
-metal container
-off-white chalk paint
-mod podge
-light tan paper
-printed images
-buttons & bling

Thanks to everyone who voted for me in the Mystery Build 2013 Contest! I didn't win the peoples' choice award, but I placed 18th out of 289 entries in the official judging and won $150.00. I am thrilled to have placed and can't wait to get started on next years entry. Have a safe and happy Thanksgiving! Here's the link:

Here it is October already! Where does the time go? I had to take a little 'vacation' and have my rotator cuff repaired so it will be awhile before I can get back to making art. I also had to put my etsy shops on vacation for awhile. I now have a booth at Amarillo Antiques Mall and Auction Barn (on Rockwell Road between Amarillo and Canyon, TX). I have filled it with vintage stuff for the time being, but soon I hope to be able to make art again. Pics of my booth coming soon (If you see something you'd like to purchase, contact me on either etsy shop (I check those messages often and sometimes miss comments on the blog). Shoulder surgery is such a long recovery! :( Bummer!

Big accomplishments of the day: garage door finally fixed, new lawn mower out of the box / back yard mowed, and new mailbox finally mounted (big hail destroyed the old one). The items below were made with low-fire white clay and glazes.
They are for sale at http://www.etsy.com/shop/MixedMediaByZehner

I love summertime! I recently resigned from teaching art in the public school system and am trying to get my home and studio organized so I can get back to making art. I am going to try and resume my blog and appreciate your comments when you visit my page. I have opened a new vintage shop on etsy in order to separate my vintage treasures from my artwork. The link above will take you to my etsy vintage shop. (The link to my etsy ART shop is still the frog on the top right side of the page). Here are a few recently listed vintage items:

FLAT STANLEY AND THE GIANT'S THINGS (sculpture made by ME!)
To give you an idea of scale, the shoe is 27 1/2" long. I will blog more about these items individually later (after school's out). I made these sculptures for my project and exhibition when I was in graduate school. I like to make giant things and teeny, tiny things (right now my passion is buttons and beads/pendants). A friend once commented on how strange it was that I was making buttons after so many years of making giant sculpture. She asked, "Do you ever make anything normal sized?" Well.....I have never been accused of being normal! I do make an occasional item for a friend, but am not as passionate about that as I am when I create my own ideas.
